Dear Shareholder,
Last year, as in years past, your tap water met all EP A and State drinking water health standards. Your water company vigilantly safeguards its water supplies and once again we are pleased to report that our system did not violate a maximum contaminant level or any other water quality standard. Last year, 2005, we conducted tests for over 80 contaminants with none testing at a level higher than the State allows.
The primary source of our drinking water is from two water wells located on company property at the 11th Street address. We acquired the property directly adjacent to the north of the original site to buffer our wells from potential contamination from animal waste should the previous owner decide to use it for agricultural purpose. Animal waste has the potential to contaminate wells with Nitrates. This expansion also provided us the space needed for construction of a new water tank and our 2nd well. Our system meets the sanitary requirements necessary to safeguard our water and is open to inspection by Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
We have taken steps to protect the system from vandals by adding video cameras and alarms to detect problems. Nothing is fool proof, but this addition and our security fence is the best deterrent we can afford at this time, and should protect us.
To protect you from containments associated coliform bacteria, your water is treated with chlorine and maintained at a .2ppm residual. Our maintenance contractor is State certified and licensed for water treatment and distribution system operation. A State approved and certified laboratory performs our water tests.
Well water is hard and tends to carry calcium carbonate residual to your tap. This is not harmful to your health and is naturally occurring. Iron and manganese are also natural to well water. Although not harmful to health in the quantities we detected, they can cause rings in the toilet bowel. We are working to control this problem.
Your Water Board drinks our tap water without reservation. If you wish to see the test results, all below the maximum contaminant level MCL mandated by the State and EP A, they are on file at our office for your review.
